How are BJJ Shorts supposed to fit?
You don’t want your BJJ or MMA Shorts to be too tight or baggy. We recommend a comfortable but secure fit - you want them to stay in place during scrambles and hard training sessions without restricting movement.
Do I need to wear compression shorts/spats underneath BJJ Shorts?
No, it’s personal preference. Some grapplers and fighters wear compression shorts or spats underneath their grappling shorts for added support, comfort and hygiene. Some of our Hooks Shorts also include built-in compression shorts/compression lining.
What are BJJ shorts made of?
Most jiu-jitsu shorts and MMA shorts are made from a combination of polyester and spandex (or elastane). This blend provides the durability, stretch, and moisture-wicking properties needed for intense grappling sessions.
What makes a good pair of Grappling Shorts?

Are your shorts IBJJF legal?
We offer a wide range of grappling and fight shorts - some that are IBJJF legal and others that are not. If you are looking for IBJJF Competition compliant shorts, we recommend you browse the IBJJF approved collection.
Are BJJ Shorts with an elastic waist better than ones with Velcro?
Yes - at least in our opinion. All of our fight shorts have an elastic waist. Velcro can cause discomfort in the stomach region when it pokes into the skin, can cause damage to other delicate items like your BJJ rash guard and can also detach over time.
Our fight shorts feature an elastic waist paired with a secure gel technology to keep them locked in place while providing maximum comfort.
How do I wash and care for my grappling shorts?
We recommend washing your shorts in cold water with a mild detergent and air drying after each use.
